Celebrating Janam Diwas Baba Deep Singh Ji – 29Jan2017

Saadh Sangat Ji,

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!!

Please join us in celebrating janam diwas of Baba Deep Singh Ji on this Sunday 29-Jan-2017 at Gurudwara Sahib.

Baba Deep Singh (1682–1757) is revered among Sikhs as one of the most honored martyrs in Sikhism and as a highly religious person. He is remembered for his sacrifice and devotion to the teachings of the Sikh Gurus. Baba Deep Singh was the first head of Misl Shaheedan Tarna Dal – an order of the Khalsa military established by Nawab Kapur Singh, the then head of Sharomani Panth Akali Buddha Dal.

In 1757, he led an army to defend the Golden Temple from Afghans. On being mortally wounded with a severe gash to his head, a Sikh reminded Baba Deep Singh, “You had resolved to reach the periphery of the pool.” On hearing the talk of the Sikh, he supported his head with his left hand and removing the enemies from his way with the strokes of his double-edged sword with his right hand, reached the periphery of Harmandir Sahib where he breathed his last.

Baba Deep Singh’s 40 kg Khanda (double-edged sword), which he used in his final battle, is still preserved at Akaal Takhat Sahib.

Youngest Sikh Martyr Sahibzaade and Mata Gujri Ji’s Teachings: 25-Dec-2016

As the year approaches the end, on December 26 every year, the global world Sikh community commemorate the martyrdom of three of their most loved figures of the Guru household. On this darkest of days, their youngest hero and bravest comrade of Sikhism, Sahibzada Fateh Singh (6 years, 1699-1705, probably the youngest recorded martyr in history who knowingly and consciously laid down his life at the very tender age of 6 years) who was the youngest of Guru Gobind Singh’s four sons, Sahibzada Zorawar Singh (1696-1705), his elder brother (8years) and Mata Gujari Kaur ji, his grandmother sacrificed their lives for their faith and the right to remain Sikhs.
At such a tender age, they were bricked alive but did not bow before the tyranny and cruelty of the Mughal government and did not accepted to change their religion.

The renowned Hindi poet, Maithli Saran Gupta in his well known book Bharat Bharati said: “Whatever their present position, the future of the community whose sons can thus lay down their lives for their faith, is bound to be glorious.”

The Sikh Monologues is debuting in Washington D.C. in less than 2 weeks, on December 11!
We have set aside tickets for advance reservation.

What is the Sikh Monologues Project?

In 2013, Jasleen Singh, Director of the Sikh Monologues, embarked on a journey to record the stories of Sikhs in America. The Monologues ask the audience to think about everything from judgement, discrimination, immigration, to domestic violence. After four successful performances in California and New York, the Sikh Monologues is excited to be premiering in Washington, D.C. this December! For more information, please check out sikhmonologues.com or like our Facebook page!
